It’s been quite a mixed two years for the French international, having won everything there is to win domestically in England – including two Premier League titles, two League Cups, an FA Cup and two Community Shields – without seemingly making a huge contribution to any of them.
To no fault of the player’s own, Mendy has suffered through persistent injury problems since arriving through the doors at the Etihad – making a combined total of 18 Premier League appearances since signing for the Citizens in 2017.
Holding out hope, many City supporters are waiting for the defender to click into full gear and start replicating the form he showed at Monaco which prompted Pep Guardiola to snap him up in the first place.
Not to mention, with other gaping defensive injuries, fans would love to see the 25-year-old fit and firing again to take the pressure off an uphill title battle.
Having returned to training, supporters took to Twitter and reacted to the news:
I feel bad for him 😔😔

Do you know what it takes to come back from an ACL, MCL, or Achilles injury? As soon as these injuries occur, they dont just go away. His ACL tear was the fault of a vicious tackle in his first season. Hes always working hard. Poor attitude? He’s always bringing positive energy.
