Manchester City have held ‘conversations’ with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham ahead of a potential 2023 move, according to journalist Mike Keegan.

The Lowdown: Five-horse race

The Bundesliga star is one of the most sought-after talents in world football right now, and despite still having three years remaining on his deal at the Signal Iduna Park, his performances have caught the eye of several potential suitors.

Premier League clubs Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, alongside the Sky Blues, have all been credited with a strong interest in the 19-year-old.

Reports have suggested that Real Madrid are currently leading the race, though a promising update has now emerged that supporters will be excited to hear.

The Latest: City hold Bellingham talks

Taking to Twitter, Keegan revealed that City have now held formal talks with Bellingham, and the club's existing connection to Dortmund following the Erling Haaland transfer could prove advantageous in the race for his signature. He wrote:

“Those with knowledge of the situation reckon Jude Bellingham ends up at Manchester City. Relations between both clubs very strong post-Haaland & told initial conversations have been held. A great World Cup may price him out this summer but he’s not seeing out his contract.”

The Verdict: Gundogan replacement

Skipper Ilkay Gundogan isn’t getting any younger, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Bellingham would be the perfect replacement - especially since members of the press have already called him a 'monster'.

The England international has made a rapid start to the new term, having scored nine goals and provided two assists across all competitions, and is averaging 2.2 shots per league game (WhoScored).

Bellingham also has some leadership experience having captained Dortmund already, making him a direct swap for the City veteran at the Etihad.
