Manchester City set to revisit move for key target after missing out on summer swoop

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are a bit worried about their defensive options now that John Stones is injured.

With Stones absent, Manchester City are down to just three recognised senior centre backs in their squad.

Nicolas Otamendi and Vincent Kompany will be the preferred starters but given Kompany’s injury record in the past, they could soon be forced to play Eliaquim Mangala at centre half.

Mangala is not particularly in favour under Pep Guardiola and he looks set to look for the exit door in the January transfer window.

This would force Guardiola’s hand as he will need to bring in another centre back as Man City continue their charge towards the Premier League title.

According to a report by The Express, Manchester City will once again attempt to sign Jonny Evans in the winter window after failing to land the West Bromwich Albion defender last summer.

The Northern Ireland international is highly rated by the Baggies, who are desperate to keep him, but the prospect of winning trophies and playing European football might tempt Evans to The Etihad.

Man City are not alone in admiration of the 29-year-old with Arsenal also holding him as a long term solution to their defensive issues.
