Manchester United: Dean Henderson gives Red Devils an ultimatum to force Solskjaer to make decision

Manchester United have undergone quite a renaissance ever since the Premier League restarted in June.

Reinvigorated by January signing Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, who has recently returned from a long layoff, Man United extended their unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions with an emphatic 3-0 win over Brighton.

According to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Red Devils are full of confidence and quality, and the evidence is there for all to see, as they have beaten two of their last three opponents by three goals to nil.

However, Solskjaer has an underlying issue that he doesn’t seem to be willing to fix so far, but he soon may not have any other option.

Questions still remain over who should be United’s designated goalkeeper next season.

To make matters worse, Dean Henderson has now issued Solskjaer an ultimatum, as he has made it clear he will not wait around forever to get his shot at Old Trafford.

Speaking to TV3, as relayed by The Daily Express, Henderson said “I think it’s clear for everyone to know. I want to play for Manchester United and England.

“It feels like I always hit a brick wall. Maybe I’ll get the opportunity, maybe I won’t, then I’ll have to look down a different avenue.”

The £13.05m-valued ace, who has been praised by Mourinho in the past, has spent the last two seasons on loan at Sheffield United.

Sky Sports reported both sides have agreed he will be allowed to stay at Bramall Lane until the end of the season.

Last month, ESPN revealed that Man United are ready to offer him a new deal alongside Brandon Williams, amid interest from Chelsea.

Who should be Man United's first-choice keeper?

However, he has grown frustrated by his lack of chances, and is prepared to reconsider his options if he doesn’t get what he wants.

It is easy to see where Henderson is coming from, as David de Gea has copped a fair amount of criticism for his performances between the posts.

The 29-year-old, who is Solskjaer’s first-choice keeper, has made 32 appearances in the Premier League this season, conceding 31 goals, and keeping 10 clean sheets (via Transfermarkt).

Meanwhile, Henderson has made 30 appearances at the time of writing, keeping 11 clean sheets, and letting in only 26 goals so far.

Despite De Gea’s struggles, United are willing to let the 23-year-old finish the remainder of the campaign on loan, and he did not play against his parent club under the terms of his agreement as they beat the Blades 3-0 at Old Trafford.

While Solskjaer may have made the right decision in the short-term, it remains to be seen if this will have a detrimental effect on Henderson’s relationship with the Red Devils. Either way, the Norwegian will certainly be fretting about the choices he must make before the start of next season.
