Jesse Lingard has been the subject of criticism so far this season for Manchester United, scoring just one league goal in 2019 and failing to replicate his previous Premier League form that earned him a spot in the England team, but supporters have somewhat changed their tune following his performance in Kazakhstan.
The Englishman got United off to a fire start in their penultimate Europa League group game, firing an unstoppable drive into the bottom corner from outside the area, and looking like the Red Devils’ main creative source all night. Indeed, as per WhoScored, the academy graduate had the most shots of any Red Devil, as well as making the third-highest amount of key passes.
Even though some critics will argue that it was against Astana, who ended up winning 2-1 and sealing their first European points of the season, it could be what Lingard needs to rediscover the best of his ability – with an uphill campaign on the horizon.
