Manchester United fans aren’t trusting their club’s board after reports surrounding David de Gea’s recent contract extension.
According to the Times, the Spaniard was reluctant to sign a new deal until he was certain about the ambition and direction of the club, wanting to be sure the club will challenge for the Premier League title.
De Gea recently signed a new four-year deal at the club that will see him earn £375,000 per week, a wage that makes him the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world. The 28-year-old will earn around £93.75m over the course of his four-year contract.
De Gea has already had a better start to this Premier League season compared to last, especially at Old Trafford. The Spain international has kept two clean sheets in the opening three home games, the same amount which he managed in all 19 games from the 2018/2019 season.
United fans are doubtful over the ‘assurances’ the board have given de Gea as they took to Twitter to tweet their scepticism.
