Manchester United fans have reacted to quotes from defender Phil Jones about deciding not to have a testimonial and did not have much sympathy.
The 27-year-old was one of the most highly-rated young defenders in England when he made the move to Old Trafford for £17m from Blackburn in 2011.
During his eight-year stay in Greater Manchester, he has had his fair share of critics along the way as some say that he failed to live up to his potential.
Jones has made 220 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists.
He was heavily criticised when he put pen to paper on a new long-term deal that extended his stay at United until 2023, but the defender himself said that he does not lose sleep over it.
When Phil Jones signed a new contract in February, he was entitled to request a testimonial as part of the deal, however, he has decided against it due to his flagging popularity.
