Manchester United supporters have been urging manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give James Garner a chance in the first team on social media.
The calls come after the 18-year-old scored in the under-21s’ 1-0 win against Lincoln City in the Leasing.com Trophy at Sincil Bank.
Garner has been very impressive in the youth team so far this season, and his latest strike means that he has now netted six times in his last six academy appearances.
As a result of that form, some fans believe that the midfielder deserves a chance in the first team at Old Trafford.
It would be fair to say that the majority of the club’s other midfield players haven’t been doing too well this season. Paul Pogba hasn’t managed a goal or an assist in his last four league starts, Jesse Lingard has produced no goals or assists since December whilst both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have had their injury problems this year.
It is easy to see, therefore, why some fans have lost patience with the regulars and want to see a youth product such as Garner given a chance in the team.
Here is what some Manchester United fans have been saying following Garner’s latest impressive performance in the under-21s…
Play him in the first team

Mason, Garner and Gomes should be starting over Trashford, Lingard and Periera. Yet PT teacher thinks they are not ready yet.
