Man Utd: Skriniar on verge of PSG move

Manchester United have been dealt a potential blow as reported centre-back target Milan Skriniar is set to move to Paris Saint-Germain, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Skriniar’s future

The Inter Milan centre-back Skriniar has been heavily rumoured with a move to the Premier League over the years with United linked with a January move by Media Foot for the Slovakian, Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a swoop for the 27-year-old by Rudi Galetti.

Skriniar has featured in all but one of Inter’s games this season, only missing their latest outing against Cremonese through suspension.

He’s captained Simone Inzaghi’s side 14 times this season but it now looks as though his stay at the San Siro is coming to an end with his £91k-per-week contract set to expire in the summer.

The Latest: Romano’s update

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist revealed the defender’s decision that will force Erik ten Hag’s side to admit defeat in his pursuit, he said:

(1:00) “We know the situation of the Inter centre-back, a really important player, one of the best centre-backs in Serie A for many, many years, also Inter captain.”

“Really important player who decided to turn down Inter proposal to extend the contract.”

“Now we know that Milan Skriniar’s priority will be to leave the club and try a new experience abroad, so not in any other Italian club but abroad.”

“Guys, from what I’m told at the minute Manchester United are not in talks to sign Milan Skriniar in January and the priority of the player is only one name, Paris Saint-Germain.

“Milan Skriniar is really close to reaching a full agreement with Paris Saint-Germain on a contract for the next five years, everything is almost ready.”

United’s defence has turned a corner under the Dutchman with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez striking up a partnership that has lifted them into the top four.

With United potentially set to cut ties with their £80m man, Skriniar could have proven a fantastic alternative with him available as a free agent in the summer, with the Scudetto and three-time cup winner at Inter offering an experienced head with the capabilities to take over Maguire’s leadership role at the club given his regularity as Inter’s captain.
