Manchester United have made an offer to Bayern Munich for midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, according to Sky Sports.

The Lowdown: Eriksen injury

Erik ten Hag has been hit with an injury blow regarding Christian Eriksen, with the midfielder set to be out for around three months with an ankle injury.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury on the weekend against Reading in the FA Cup, in what was his 31st appearance of the season in all competitions.

It looks as if United are exploring the market for a new signing as a result of the update on Eriksen, with Sabitzer seemingly a player of interest.

The Latest: Sky Sports update

Sky Sports Germany reporter Uli Koehler said ‘I just got a call’ live on the channel’s deadline day coverage (13:24), revealing that Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic is talking to Chelsea and Manchester United, with both clubs making a late offer for Sabitzer.

He labelled the midfielder as a ‘very good player’ and that Bayern are ready to ‘give him away’ on loan or sell him.

The Verdict: Smart move?

Both Eriksen and Sabitzer have made the majority of their appearances this season as a central midfielder, with the Austria international turning out 24 times for Bayern.

The 28-year-old has been on par with Eriksen in terms of performances, averaging a slightly better league match rating during the current campaign, as per WhoScored, while his numbers actually surpass the Red Devils star in most major metrics, according to FBRef.

Sabitzer can also turn out further forward in an advanced midfield role if required and even out wide, so if the terms are right, he could prove to be a shrewd replacement for Eriksen, with this one to watch in the final hours of the window.
