Manchester United may make a move for former Tottenham chief Steve Hitchen, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Hitchen’s departure

Spurs announced last week that Hitchen has left his role in north London as Technical Performance Director.

Labelled as ‘fantastic’ by Mauricio Pochettino after advising Tottenham to sign Lucas Moura back in 2018, Hitchen returned to the club in 2017 after previously working as a scout in north London between 2005-2010.

He has recently been linked with both Everton and Newcastle, but it seems as if United could also be keen.

The Latest: Source shares interest

According to Football Insider, the Red Devils could make a move for Hitchen if Pochettino takes over at Old Trafford from Ralf Rangnick.

A United source informed the site that Pochettino would be in favour of working with Hitchen once again and the pair have remained in touch over the last two years.

The Verdict: Patience required

You’d think that United may not appoint a new manager until the summer, with Pochettino seemingly their top target.

So, the Red Devils may have to rely on Hitchen remaining out of work over the next four months, something that could prove tricky following recent Premier League interest.

However, not being able to bring Hitchen to Old Trafford could have an impact on Pochettino’s stance over a return to the Premier League, so we feel United officials should get the ball rolling sooner rather than later, perhaps using Pochettino's old friend as a carrot to lure the Argentine back to England.
