Journalist Dean Jones has insisted that Manchester United are still very interested in signing Harry Kane this summer.

The Lowdown: Man United in the market for a striker

Despite bringing in a striker in January in the form of Wout Weghorst, the Dutchman is only on loan until the end of the season while arguably being past his peak.

Therefore, it's no surprise that Man United are being linked with a number of top-class strikers to help lead the line for Erik ten Hag's side next season when they will likely be in the Champions League.

Man United are being heavily tipped to make a big-money splash this summer for a new goalscorer, with the likes of Napoli's Victor Osimhen and Tottenham Hotspur's golden boy Harry Kane among those linked.

The Latest: Kane is firmly on the radar

Amid the uncertainty surrounding Tottenham Hotspur and their managerial situation, Jones claimed on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel that Man United could go as high as £85m for Kane.

He said: "There is a possibility that Tottenham sell Harry Kane to another Premier League club because all the money is in the Premier League. There's not many teams out there.

"Bayern Munich are interested, yeah - will they get to £80m? That would be a Bundesliga record, I believe. They're certainly not going to go above that, so if Man United were to go, 'okay, we'll give you £85m', I think Harry Kane does go to Man United in the end.

"So it is a possibility, it's definitely there. We know Man United want a number nine, him and Osimhen [are being] talked about a lot. There's other players they're looking at; they're looking at Sesko, they're looking at and a couple of others, too."

The Verdict: Ten Hag will be desperate for Kane

If Man United are to become serious title contenders next season, recruiting someone such as Kane would be a huge statement of intent. However, it could well depend on how clear their ownership situation becomes in the next few weeks and months.

Given that teams around them such as Manchester City and Liverpool have reliable goalscorers and the Red Devils are still having to play a rather underwhelming Weghorst (with zero Premier League goals this term) through the middle in pretty much every game, a new striker must be at the top of the club's shopping list.

Kane has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League for several years now and is the third all-time top scorer in the division, which has seen him labelled as 'exceptional' by Jurgen Klinsmann in recent times.
