Manchester United quoted £40m to land transfer target

Marco ReusHere in the Football Transfer Tavern, Manchester United fans are eagerly looking to our landlord to fill them in on the latest claim from the Daily Mail.

The publication seem to think that Marco Reus would cost them an awful lot of money.

Our landlord is rushed off his feet with a packed tavern today and across the festive period, but he still has time to tell us that should David Moyes wish to land Marco Reus, it will cost him at least £40 million.

One of our punters notes that considering they only brought one new face in in the summer,  it is not like their squad couldn’t do with a fair few additions.

As seems customary in the Bundesliga, when a side are threatening to actually make a long-term challenge to Bayern Munich, the Bavarian giants buy up most of their best players.

One of the few left in the BVB side is Reus, who is willing to consider his future elsewhere given the fact the once great team under Jurgen Klopp seems to be dismantling.

To sign the player, Moyes would have to break the transfer record at the club and could have gotten him for just under £30 million last summer, yet since the Mario Gotze saga, BVB are playing hardball and the clause in Reus’ contract has been increased.

Will United really spend as much as £40 million on one player in January? Let us know your thoughts below.
