Lots of Manchester United fans have been discussing the news that the board are ready to sell at least three players in the summer, according to a report via the Manchester Evening News.
Chief football writer Samuel Luckhurst claims Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones are most likely to leave Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window.
Lingard has failed to score or assist in the Premier League all season, despite being given plenty of opportunities by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The United academy graduate has made over 200 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, notching 31 goals and 20 assists, and lifting the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup throughout his time at the club (via Transfermarkt).
His teammate Jones has played in just 2 games in the English top flight in this campaign, and is also considered surplus to requirements by the club legend (Transfermarkt). Newcastle United’s head coach Steve Bruce has previously registered his interest in the 28-year-old defender as he has bags of experience at international level.
Whilst this update is hardly surprising, there are a couple of shock additions that are also worth noting.
Despite attention from a number of English clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, Chris Smalling is eager to make his loan spell with AS Roma permanent, and Ed Woodward has been looking for potential suitors to sign out-of-favour forward Alexis Sanchez.
Given his wage demands in the past, it is unclear if United will be able to find a suitable club who can front the costs for the Chile international.
