Newcastle United: Toon Army slams latest Phil Jones transfer link

Newcastle United: Toon Army slams latest Phil Jones transfer link - Newcastle United

According to the Mirror, Newcastle United are planning to make a move for wantaway Manchester United defender Phil Jones in the summer. Unsurprisingly the latest transfer link has driven loads of supporters crazy.

Jones has fallen out of favour with Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United are willing to let him go at the end of the season for £12m.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce is eager to do a deal with his old club as the 28-year-old defender has bags of Premier League and European experience. Jones has won the Premier League, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the League Cup during his time at Old Trafford (Transfermarkt).

However, the England international has suffered from an injury-stricken career and has only made eight appearances this season, including two games in the English top flight. Jones’ current market value is registered at £8.1m via Transfermarkt.

Newcastle have plenty of options at the back, with fan favourite Federico Fernandez recently signing a new contract extension, so Jones would find himself competing against him, Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett and Florian Lejeune.

Predictably a whole host of the Toon Army have slammed the club’s link to the English centre-back, with one supporter adding an offer would be an “absolute waste of money.”

Take a look at some of the angriest reactions so far…
