The Daily Express has stunned Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern and after our landlord explains why, we are eager to hear the full story.

According to the publication, Mats Hummels has launched an extraordinary attack on Borussia Dortmund who as we all know are struggling badly this season.

Now, it seems that his exit from the Bundesliga side may well come a little bit sooner than first thought.

As  our landlord notes, United are in dire need of a quality defender with the German international topping the Red Devils’ wishlist.

Louis van Gaal has of course previously claimed that he will wait until the summer to make big moves but after these quotes, we think he may well see a opening to bolster his side for the second half of the season and really get United’s title challenge up and running.

In an astonishing attack on his club and team-mates, Hummels claimed: “We’ve managed pretty well at home in recent weeks, but not at all away.

“It’s pretty astonishing that we are so pathetic.”

However, if he thinks Dortmund are pathetic, our regulars joke that he should have seen United under David Moyes!
