It was confirmed on Monday that Man Utd had sealed a deal for the Serbian, with the 29-year-old moving to Old Trafford from Chelsea on a three-year deal.

Indeed, for many in the pub, the Serbian is seen as the final piece in Jose Mourinho’s puzzle. The Man Utd midfield has been lacking that defensive bite under Mourinho, and Matic will certainly bring that with him to Old Trafford.

Unfortunately, Matic’s arrival could force Michael Carrick back to the bench. Though he is now the club captain, Jose Mourinho is a manager that picks his team on merit – and at present, the Englishman isn’t deserving of a starting berth, particularly ahead of new arrival Nemanja Matic.

It seems likely that the Serbian will come straight into the team, but who will line up alongside him?

DM – Nemanja Matic

Man Utd’s new signing is sure to be a hit in the midfield, with his expert tackling and powerful running proving crucial for Chelsea during his stay in London.

He may be a short-term fix, but he is a player that is in the prime of his career, and at this point there is nobody better for Jose Mourinho’s midfield.

The Serbian will allow his two midfield partners to rampage forward when they choose.

CM – Ander Herrera

Playing slightly ahead of Matic is likely to be Ander Herrera – the player that the Man Utd fans in the pub wanted to be captain ahead of Carrick.

He had a real coming of age last season, displaying constant running and aggression in an otherwise disappointing Man Utd midfield.

The Spaniard will have more freedom with Matic in the side, and he is likely to flourish as a result.

CM – Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba struggled last year, and many point the reasoning for this towards the need for him to defend.

The lack of a strong tackler in the middle of the park often meant that the Frenchman had to drop back and as a result, he wasn’t always in position when Man Utd attacked.

Expect him to be the most forward of all of Man Utd’s midfielders, and expect more involvement as a result.
