Matt Targett is a player Newcastle have to sign in January

Newcastle have put together a brilliant run of form as they’ve currently recorded three wins in a row.

That is some performance considering that after ten Premier League games this season, they hadn’t won a game.

Rafa Benitez has again proven to the Newcastle hierarchy why he is so valuable for the club, as he can conjure up points just like that.

His management, though, has been let down because of the poor recruitment from Newcastle. Already, the need for new players in January is apparent, especially after first-choice left-back Paul Dummett recently obtained an injury.

With him out, the Magpies literally have no back-up in that position, hence the need to change formation.

That can’t continue forever though and Newcastle should seriously look at bringing in Southampton’s Matt Targett in January.

Targett, who is valued at £6.3 million on Transfermarkt, is a left-back that could be a brilliant acquisition at St James’ Park.

The 23-year-old has made just 3 league appearances this season and it seems that his career at St Marys maybe coming to an end.

He spent half of last season out on-loan with Fulham in the Championship, where he boosted his confidence with 18 appearances in the league.

After helping the Cottagers gain promotion, interest was hotting up around Targett but no one made a move for him in the end.

Now though, it could be the prime time for Newcastle to make a move and get a quality back-up left-back that would improve their overall squad depth.

Southampton are surely likely to be prepared to let Matt Targett leave considering their current predicament and the fact he’s stuck behind Ryan Bertrand , with Newcastle becoming greatful recipients if that’s the case.
