Mixed news on the injury front as Man City look to get back to winnings ways

Manchester City appear to be running away with the Premier League crown, but manager Pep Guardiola will hope to have his entire squad fresh as a return to the Champions League draws closer.

Fans here in The Transfer Tavern are astounded with the performances of their side this season, and despite their first domestic defeat of the season to Liverpool last weekend, remain confident that the Citizens can continue to dominate on all fronts in the coming months. Our landlord caught up with fans around the jukebox to talk all things City, with plenty of fans keen to share their thoughts on the season so far. During the chat manager Pep Guardiola provided an update on the injury status of two of his men, with journalist Ben Dinnery reporting on Twitter that Fabian Delph was some way off a first-team return, but captain Vincent Kompany could be available as soon as next week.

"Fabian Delph will be out for a while – we're not quite sure yet. Vincent Kompany is much better, we don't know right now but hopefully in the next game he will be ready." #MCFC

The pair have impressed when called upon this season, and fans will be particularly buoyed by the news of Kompany’s imminent return, with the popular man suffering more injury woes than most since making the move to the club way back in 2008. The Belgian will hope for a solid run in the team to ensure a place in the national side for the World Cup in the summer.

Landlord’s Verdict: Both Kompany and Delph has been blighted by injury over the last few years, and fans will be concerned by the pair’s constant absence from the squad. However news that Kompany is on the verge of coming back will be met with great relief, and the club will pray that the influential, long-serving 31-year-old can maintain his body from now until the end of the season.

Kompany is a top player when fit and well, and should he remain available for selection, then City’s chances of a famous quadruple could be on the cards.
