Monaco are interested in signing Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier on a free transfer next summer. Trippier is has less than a year remaining on his current deal at the club and turned down advances from Monaco earlier in the summer.
The player is understood to be open to signing a one year extension at Newcastle, and currently earns £120k-per-week. The Chronicle has reported that Monaco remain keen on Trippier if a new deal is not agreed.
The 35 year-old likely won’t get a lucrative long term deal but remains a key figure for Eddie Howe. He started the first four of Newcastle’s Premier League games this season, but was dropped for the most recent two against Bournemouth and Arsenal.
Injury to Tino Livaremento means Trippier could return to the XI for the club’s Champions League clash against Union SG however. The former Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley star is one of the Premier League’s most experienced players, with over 209 appearances across the three clubs.
He has over 600 senior appearances in total across all competitions for Burnley, Spurs, Atletico Madrid and Newcastle.
Trippier could depart Newcastle next summer

Since joining Newcastle from Atletico Madrid in 2021, Trippier has held the role of spiritual skipper in the Newcastle dressing room. His manager Eddie Howe previously confirmed the club’s intention to extend his deal, saying: “Kieran is a very, very experienced player and very important for us.”
“His contract length is something that an incoming sporting director will be on top of.”
Newcastle will be wary of delaying a contract decision for a veteran player, as they learned this summer when experienced striker Calum Wilson left the club to join West Ham. Wilson was seeking a long term contract with guarantees while Newcastle persisted with a pay-to-play deal.
The Magpies will look to secure Trippier sooner rather than later, having already fended off interest from Monaco and Bayern Munich for the player’s services. Clubs in the MLS and Saudi Arabia are also understood to have expressed interest in the player, as he is free to negotiate with clubs outside of England starting in January.
