Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been sinking a few pints to settle their nerves ahead of tonight’s crucial Champions League game and a point of their discussion has been a shock approach from French outfit Monaco.
The Mail states the Ligue 1 outfit made a £35m bid to buy-out Jose Mourinho’s contract with Chelsea, as they look to bring the under-fire Blues boss to the French principality to lead their ambitious project.
Roman Abramovich rejected the approach, looking for double the offer, which shows a strong show of faith towards the struggling Portuguese boss; with Chelsea having an embarrassing record of losing eight of their last 16 matches in all competitions.
Another defeat this evening to Dynamo Kiev could potentially shatter their Champions League ambitions, with the Blues trailing tonight’s opposition by one point and stuck three points behind leaders Porto; who are expected to secure another victory against Maccabi Tel Aviv this evening.
If Mourinho doesn’t improve results quickly, then Abramovich may be left with no choice but to relive the boss of his duties- which could prove costly with a hefty pay-off package in the Premier League winner’s contract.
