Morata: I’ve started well, but I must to do this to repay the faith Chelsea have shown in me

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been delighted with the fine form of Alvaro Morata this season…

The Spaniard has really impressed at Stamford Bridge, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted, but it doesn’t appear as though he is as happy as those watching on from the sidelines.

Discussing his move to Chelsea with El Pais, Morata said: “Fate has given me a chance. It is true that I have had some good games, I have scored goals that have earned points…but you can not expect a player to score important goals…from time to time. Football is regularity.

He added: “They [Chelsea] have given me everything. Conte is to die with me, the hobby is to die with me and the club is to die with me. That’s why I have to hit the ground running”.

Morata is being particularly harsh on himself here, because he definitely deserves credit for the way he has started the season. Most players require a period of adjustment when moving to a new team in a new league, but the Spaniard has needed nothing of the sort.

In every game he has played, he has looked good – and Antonio Conte will be hoping that his form continues.

However, he is right. He needs to ensure that the goals don’t dry up, and that they continue to come frequently in high profile games. If his start is anything to go by, though, the best is certainly yet to come.

Landlord’s Verdict

Morata has a lot of pressure on his shoulders, but he looks destined to succeed at present.

Chelsea have invested heavily in him, and he’ll be expected to provide most of Chelsea’s goals this season. He can’t afford to have a dry spell, and like he says, he must score regularly.

That said, Chelsea haven’t been at their best yet this season, and with the prospect of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Eden Hazard returning to full fitness, he’s only going to get more chances to succeed as time goes on.
