More frustrating news for Everton fans following tricky few weeks

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern were drowning their sorrows on Thursday night as their side’s wretched run of form continued.

Ronald Koeman’s suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham on Saturday to fall to a second successive Premier League loss, yet a trip to Atalanta in the Europa League gave them an opportunity to put their league troubles aside and end their poor run of form.

However, they were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by the Serie A outfit to suggest that their indifferent form is getting closer to a crisis, leaving manager Koeman with much to ponder ahead of their trip to Manchester United on Sunday.

And Everton fans aren’t likely to be too pleased by a recent report in Danish newspaper BT, which includes quotes from the agent of Cardiff City striker Kenneth Zohore suggesting that the Toffees were in the race for the 23-year-old.

The Denmark Under-21 international only moved to the South Wales outfit last summer after a decent loan spell there earlier in 2016, but he has certainly proved his worth to Bluebirds chief Neil Warnock in his short stint at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Zohore bagged 12 goals and laid on five assists in just 29 Championship games for the club last term to help them secure a top-half finish, and it was goal-scoring form that reportedly attracted the interest of several sides over the summer, most notably Chris Hughton’s Brighton.

However, Zohore’s agent Darryl Powell has recently stated that Everton were also in the running, telling Danish newspaper BT: ‘And there was also strong interest from Everton.’

These comments are sure to intrigue our resident Evertonians, who have seen their side struggle for goals this season since the sale of Romelu Lukaku over the summer, bagging just two (both of which from the boot of Wayne Rooney) in their opening four Premier League matches.

Landlord’s verdict: Everton spent big in the summer in a bid to close the gap on the top six in the Premier League, but the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United was always going to be a huge blow to their chances.

You can’t take 87 goals and 29 assists out of a side and expect to be better than before, although it does appear that they tried to bring in attacking reinforcements over the summer, with Kenneth Zohore of Cardiff City reportedly a target.

The 23-year-old was excellent for the Bluebirds last term but was never going to be the answer, but with Wayne Rooney the only man to score in the Premier League thus far, another option may not have gone amiss at all.
