Mourinho drops big midfielder hint in potential Man United contract offer

As quoted by The Daily Express, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has dropped a hint that midfielder Michael Carrick could be set for a new contract with the club, ensuring our resident Red Devils fans here in the Transfer Tavern have smiles on their faces.

The former Tottenham midfielder has been a favourite of the United faithful for some time thanks to his range of passing and ability to dictate the tempo of a game.

Still, he was linked with a move to Newcastle United recently and was coy when talking about the notion of extending his stay at Old Trafford.

He’s enjoyed a trophy-laden decade and more at the Theatre of Dreams, winning literally everything at club level when under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mourinho, in discussing the midfielder, recently gave a hint that a new contract may soon be winging its way to him.

“He is such a fantastic player and I’ve always loved him. It is just a pity instead of being his manager when he was 25, I am his manager when he is 35”, said the Portuguese.

”But I am lucky I’ve still got Michael Carrick – and probably for one more season.”

Many called for the return of Carrick into the side with United struggling earlier on in this season and, despite not firing on full cylinders still, they look much better with him in the line-up.

United gave one of their best performances of the season on Saturday against Arsenal and Carrick was a large part of the reason for that.
