For the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern, major changes are still needed at Old Trafford. If the Red Devils are going to have any chance of regaining the Premier League next season, they’ll have to do a lot of catching up – with Man City still storming ahead in the English top flight.
Jose Mourinho, though, isn’t a manager that is ever ready to give up, and so it seems likely that he will look to regroup this summer ahead of another attempt at glory next term.
His preparations for that, it seems, have already begun too, at least according to the Manchester Evening News.
Clearly, Jose Mourinho isn’t looking for a mid-tier player. The big money signing of Nemanja Matic has had a big effect on the team this season, and he appears to be keen to replicate that this summer.
The likes of Vidal and Jorginho won’t come cheaply, but given the gulf in class between Man Utd and Man City, a couple of minor signings aren’t quite going to cut it.
Who the Red Devils end up chasing remains to be seen, but the fact that this request has come from Mourinho so early suggests that he is hoping for big things this summer.
Landlord’s Verdict
Carrick has been a fantastic servant to Man Utd over the years, and they’ve certainly felt his absence this season.
He’s always been a composed, controlling figure in the midfield, and without him, the Red Devils have been lacking something in the middle of the park.
It won’t be easy to replace him, so the Man Utd scouts will have to be at the top of their game.
