Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern tend to get a little apprehensive when they are linked with South American players at the moment.
The memories of Angel Di Maria’s and Falcao’s ill-fated spells under Louis nan Gaal are still raw and with the amount of money spent on the pair, it’s understandable that United fans greet any links to South American players with skepticism.
Success can be had with the right players however, as Alexis Sanchez and Phillipe Coutinho have shown at Arsenal and Liverpool respectively.
There are very few players who match the intensity and skill that comes from those would learn their trade from a young age on the streets and work so hard to make it to the top.
Untied fans will remember how well Carlos Tevez did for them once he adapted to English football (although perhaps not so much for what happened afterwards…)
With that in mind, here are TWO players we think Mourinho should sign who would adapt to the league quickly.
FABINHO
If there’s one place Mourinho will look to sign a player in January, it is on the right of his defence.
The Portuguese tends to bring his own players in that are specialists in their respective positions.
In that respect, Fabinho might be sthe perfect fit as he is a fine right-back, but with Brazilian combining his pace and stamina with defensive discipline.
The Monaco man would be the perfect tonic to the post-Gary Neville woe and could act as cover for Antonio Valencia in the short-term.
FELIPE ANDERSON
Another area United seem to be struggling with is on the flanks.
Anthony Martial’s head doesn’t seem to be at the right place at the moment, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also struggling to get a first-team place despite looking good in bursts.
Signing the tricky Felipe Anderson from Lazio would give Mourinho a solid option as a player who can cut inside and afford Luke Shaw space on the left wing.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic not having the same effect he did when he arrived, it would also give Mourinho the opportunity to shift Marcus Rashford into his preferred spot up front when a match calls for more pace.
