The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have high expectations ahead of their side’s clash with Ajax this evening…

After a long and strenuous Europa League campaign, the Red Devils have finally reached the final hurdle. Unfortunately for them, though, this hurdle is arguably far higher than any that has come before in the competition.

Ajax are the competition on the night, and the Dutch giants are in fine form in the lead-up to the game.  Man Utd are likely heading into the game feeling confident, as they should, but they should be under no illusions – this is going to be a very difficult fixture. Jose Mourinho certainly has a big job on his hands, and a few big calls could very well be needed as he looks to steer his side to victory.

A final is all about big players and match-winning moments, and it can often be a 90 minute period in which heroes are made.  Mourinho could opt for a tried and tested XI this evening, but perhaps he should start the following TWO players – because they could really produce some magic…

Anthony Martial

There is no doubting it – Anthony Martial has not lived up to the hype yet.

He looked great during his first few months in Red, but since that point and particularly under Jose Mourinho, his game time has reduced and his quality has been lacklustre.

That being said, he is a top player – you don’t become Europe’s Golden Boy by being average – but he desperately needs a platform to show his greatness.

A big performance in a cup final could be just what he needs, and whilst he is unpredictable, that could work in Mourinho’s favour.

 Axel Tuanzebe

Axel Tuanzebe looked like a seasoned veteran over the weekend, with the defender thrust into the first team fold in a rare showing of attention towards young players by Jose Mourinho.

He is, of course, inexperienced, and he has a lot to learn – but what a talent. It would take a bold man to start a youngster in the Europa League final, but Mourinho may be wise to consider it.

Defensively, Man Utd have struggled, and the insertion of a young player could give the squad exactly what it needs to push on and secure that win. Plus, if his performance at the weekend is anything to go by, he will no doubt put in a stormer.
