The Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are loving the sound of this…
Man Utd have really struggled defensively this season, and a recent injury to Eric Baily has made matters even worse for Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils have been conceding goals consistently so far this season, and that is a trait that Jose Mourinho will likely loathe – given the priority of focus often placed upon the defensive side of the game under his managership.
It would not come as a surprise, then, to learn that according to the Sun, Mourinho is plotting a huge Man Utd overhaul – with the Sun reporting that the Portuguese boss is ready to sell 8 of his Man Utd flops – but that only tells half the story.
Further to that, according to the Sun, Mourinho is plotting a £30m move for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin, who has been incredible for the Spanish side in recent years.
At 30-years-old, Godin would no doubt be a short-term fix for Mourinho, but he seemingly feels that the experience and raw quality that Godin would bring could be invaluable to his faltering squad.
The holes in Man Utd’s squad so far this season are clear to see, with the Portuguese boss struggling to find a stalwart-like central defender. At Chelsea he had John Terry, and at Real Madrid he had Sergio Ramos – but at Man Utd he can only choose from players like Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling.
The gap in quality is clear, and our landlord thinks that Mourinho simply must enlist the assistance of one of Europe’s finest defenders – and Godin certainly fits that bill.
It will no doubt be difficult to tempt the 30-year-old to England, though, with the talismanic defender a key part of Diego Simeone’s setup at Atletico Madrid.
The Man Utd fans in the Tavern are hoping that Jose Mourinho will be able to work his magic and tempt one of Europe’s best to join him, as he so often has in the past.
