For the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern, the Jose Mourinho is yet to wholly convince in the slightest, despite the huge amounts of money spent during his brief tenure in charge thus far.
While the Red Devils and the Portuguese do not seem like the most natural fit, the 53-year-old was drafted in to Old Trafford as the man to finally restore winning ways following the spells of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal in the wake of Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
Certainly, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach was backed over the course of the summer, breaking the world transfer record for Paul Pobga, while spending big on the likes of Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Though he arrived on a free, it’s not as if Zlatan Ibrahimovic isn’t raking in a huge weekly wage either.
So, the United fans propping up the bar don’t quite know how to take reports from the Daily Record.
They claim he believes it will take at least TWO transfer windows to sort his squad out, with the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ reportedly lamenting the state of the playing staff left behind by his predecessors.
It’s understood, the way he sees it, that the feeling amongst his staff is that too many of the club’s players accept poor results and do not have the right mentality.
With that in mind, he will reportedly task Ed Woodward with finding players boasting the required technical and mental characteristics required to challenge for both the Premier League and the Champions League.
“We need quality players, but you can not do it in one to two transfer windows,” a source close to Mourinho is quoted as saying in the report.
“You cannot buy four or five players in one go of the level that we need.”
