Mourinho should drop these 2 Man Utd players against Benfica – agreed?

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting another win in the Champions League on Tuesday. It’s been a decent start to the season for Man Utd, and their Champions League form has been a particular highlight. With the Red Devils currently leading the way in their group, it’s looking very good for them as they look to progress into the last 16.

That said, the job isn’t done yet, and so Jose Mourinho must continue to work hard and select the best team. Benfica impressed against them in the last round of fixtures, despite succumbing to a loss, and so when they face off again on Tuesday, it will be no easy feat to get past the Portuguese outfit.

As a result, team selection will be vitally important, and it’s key that Mourinho gets it right. Man Utd may have won at the weekend, but a few changes could be needed as the boss looks to pick the perfect starting line-up.

With that said, Mourinho needs to drop these 2 Man Utd players against Benfica – agreed?

 Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has had a tough few weeks.

After a sensational start to the season, he has found assists and goals increasingly hard to come by as the season has progressed, and against Tottenham, he struggled once more.

The attack is an area in which Mourinho has a decent amount of choice, and with Anthony Martial coming off the bench to score again, the Frenchman certainly deserves a spot in the first team this time around. Mkhitaryan could make way.

 Chris Smalling

Jose Mourinho installed a defence-first system against Tottenham, with five defenders lining up for the Red Devils.

They’ll be expected to control Benfica, though, and so it seems unlikely that a five-man defence will be needed this time around, with a more attacking option perhaps likely to come in.

Smalling was decent against the Lilywhites, but with Phil Jones and Eric Bailly available, it seems likely that he will be the one to make way.
