The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern were hoping that their side would seal another blockbuster deal this summer…
The arrival of Paul Pogba over the summer certainly suggested to the Red Devils in the pub that, with Mourinho in charge, the allure of Man Utd could be too much for any player in Europe to resist – and so they have subsequently been hoping for another big move to come this summer.
It appeared to be on the cards, too, with PSG midfielder Marco Verratti reportedly a key target for Jose Mourinho. However, these plans have now taken a hit – with Verratti reportedly being made unavailable for a transfer this summer.
Speaking to Le10 Sport, PSG director of football Patrick Kluivert said: “Marco Verratti is the pillar of our midfield and he will remain so. This year, he will not budge from PSG”.
It appears as though this move is dead before it has even really begun, with Kluivert seemingly insistent that the midfielder will not be sold.
It certainly is a shame for the Red Devils, with a midfield combination of Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba and Marco Verratti arguably the most impressive in Europe were it to come together.
With Michael Carrick yet to be offered a new deal at Man Utd, a midfielder will likely be targetted if that does not change – but it appears that Mourinho will have to look beyond PSG and Verratti.
