Newcastle United: Magpies to lodge VAR complaint

VAR

The Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has revealed a significant update from Newcastle United involving the VAR controversy over the weekend.

The Lowdown: PGMOL admission

As per The Times journalist Martyn Ziegler, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) are understood to have ‘accepted’ that the VAR intervention to disallow a Magpies goal in their 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon was ‘wrong’.

They will now co-operate with the league’s request to review the incident and have vowed to take lessons from the outcome.

The Latest: VAR complaint prepared

Taking to Twitter, Edwards has revealed that Newcastle will now lodge an official VAR complaint, with the Premier League demanding answers over why their goal was ruled out after a VAR review.

Sharing a link to a corresponding article from The Telegraph, he informed followers: “Newcastle to lodge official VAR complaint as Premier League demand answers.”

The Verdict: Too little, too late

Unfortunately, the admission from the PGMOL and the complaints over VAR have come too little, too late for Eddie Howe and Newcastle.

They will not be able to change the outcome of their match, which resulted in two points being dropped at home when really they should have had all three if the goal was given.

Now is the time to have a serious review of VAR in the Premier League and decide whether it is more of a hindrance than a help.
