Newcastle United’s campaign has been difficult to pin down.
After significant investment last summer, expectations were high, yet inconsistency in the Premier League has left them stuck in mid-table.
Cup competitions offered little relief aside from a run to the EFL Cup semi-finals, while their Champions League journey ended in emphatic fashion following a heavy aggregate defeat to Barcelona.
With questions mounting and a squad refresh on the horizon, focus is already shifting toward the summer — and one of their standout performers could be at the centre of it.
Newcastle Name Gordon Price
According to The Times, Newcastle are prepared to consider the sale of Anthony Gordon if Bayern Munich meet their £75 million valuation this summer.
The England international — described as “clinical” by national team boss Thomas Tuchel — has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season, underlining his importance despite the club’s struggles.
Bayern have identified Gordon as a key target as they look to build on their domestic success, although their current valuation is believed to sit closer to £55 million — well below Newcastle’s demands. While no formal bid has been submitted yet, the Magpies are aware of the interest and would be open to discussions if that figure rises significantly.
There is also a growing sense that Gordon himself could be tempted by the move, particularly with Bayern offering regular Champions League football. Liverpool and Arsenal have previously shown interest, but the German champions are currently seen as the frontrunners.
Newcastle’s stance is shaped in part by financial considerations, with the club needing to balance the books and create room for new signings after a disappointing league campaign.
This feels like one of those transfers that could accelerate quickly once the first bid lands. Newcastle don’t want to lose Gordon — but they might have to decide whether keeping him is worth more than what his sale could unlock.
For Bayern, it’s a statement signing in the making. For Newcastle, it could be the deal that defines their entire summer.
