Loads of Newcastle fans have been discussing the form of Javier Manquillo, as some supporters even admit they ‘can’t believe’ how good the Spaniard has become after his performance against Crystal Palace.
Right-back seemed to be a major issue for Steve Bruce as the new campaign begun, with three seemingly bang-average options and not one proving they deserved to be the nailed on starter.
That’s all changed now though, as after an injury DeAndre Yedlin, Manquillo has stepped up and grabbed his opportunity with both hands.
The 25 year-old was superb in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, winning nine out of his 15 duels, completing 89% of his passes and making a game-high six tackles, per Sofascore.
Manquillo has now clearly moved above both Yedlin and summer signing Emil Krafth in the pecking order, and Steve Bruce was quick to pay homage to his display after Saturday’s victory.
