Newcastle United supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team thump fellow Premier League relegation candidates Southampton 3-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Rafa Benitez’s men went into their clash with the South Coast outfit having lost 2-0 to Liverpool in their preceding league encounter, a result which dragged them to within two points of the bottom three. However, the Magpies put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone on Saturday as a Kenedy brace alongside a Matt Ritchie strike secured a comfortable victory for the North East giants, thus propelling them up to 13th place in the Premier League table.
As such, there have been many buoyant Newcastle fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are a bit gutted that their side do not have another game for three weeks now, what with an international break to follow this weekend’s FA Cup fixtures.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Magpies supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent comments from manager Benitez suggesting that the club will decide on the future of striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in the summer.
The 23-year-old struggled for regular gametime at St James’ Park in the first half of the season and subsequently was shipped out on loan to Championship side Fulham in January, for whom he has hit the ground running with seven goals in just eight league appearances.
And Benitez has admitted that a decision regarding the future of the Serbia international will be made at the end of the season, and it’s fair to say that Newcastle fans on Twitter can’t decide on whether to keep the £7.2 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt), or indeed sell him in the summer…

He’s a great championship player but hasn’t cut it in the premiership – get rid

Bring him back and hopefully he’ll be match sharp and on form

He is a reasonable championship striker. Not good enough for the premiership. Also a liability

KEEP

Love his pride and his passion, but ultimately we need a prolific goalscorer. Might be best cashing in at end of season and going into the market. Need to start thinking about Armstrong, got a good feeling about the lad #nufc

Keep. Hopefully he can replicate his current form in the Premier League -assuming we stay up.

Sell, too much of a liability but if he manages to not get sent off for Fulham then maybe he deserves another chance

Newcastle fans… what do you think? Let us know!
