Newcastle fans on social media can’t wait for the season to start

This summer has been a rip-roaring disappointment for the majority of football fans in Newcastle for a number of reasons. To start with, neither Jamaal Lascelles or Jonjo Shelvey made the England squad and then Mike Ashley did a Mike Ashley in the transfer window. However, the fans are still buzzing to get behind the lads when the Premier League returns.

The summer transfer window and pre-season are all one thing but the fans will only be getting their hopes up when the football returns. The club host Tottenham Hotspur at St James Park in just over two weeks on 11th August. This time last season the club were preparing to kick off their season at home to Spurs and there was slightly more optimism around the fans back then.

In the 2017/18 season, the Magpies got off to a losing start when Dele Alli and Ben Davies gave Tottenham a 2-0 win in their opening fixture, however, with a lot of Spurs’ first-team still out on holiday after the World Cup, Newcastle could really hurt Mauricio Pochettino’s side and prove to themselves that even with Ashley strangling the life out of the club financially, they can still do bits on the pitch with their gaffer, Rafa Benitez in charge.

I'm excited for the season ahead. Yeah fair enough I'd have wanted more signings and bigger outlays but I know we have players that will give 110% for the fans/shirt. It's been a long while since we've had a team like that.
