Sometimes, Ayoze Perez can be the difference for Newcastle United. When he’s on his game he contributes goals and assists in abundance for The Magpies. However, when he’s off his game he can be woeful and that’s what happened yesterday as the Spaniard missed chance after chance, eventually being replaced by Joselu in Newcastle’s 3-0 home to defeat to West Ham.

Loads of Magpies were fuming with Perez and you can understand why. Had the chances that came his way fallen to Salomon Rondon then there’s almost no doubt that Lukas Fabianski would have had to pick the ball out of his net at least once yesterday. As it was, Fabianski was a bystander for most of the game as Rafa Benitez’s side fell to their heaviest defeat of the season at the hands of Manuel Pellegrini’s well-drilled West Ham.
It was truly a game that summed up the phrase, quality over quantity. West Ham had very little of the ball and very few chances, but when they did break forward they did so with a cutting edge that Newcastle simply couldn’t handle. Javier Hernandez’s sharp eye for goal was the difference as his double was added to late on by a Felipe Anderson strike and whilst there’s no doubting that Perez tries his best at St James Park, he just doesn’t have the quality in front of goal that Chicharito offers for The Hammers, and it told in a poor outing for the Spaniard.

Perez should have been off 70 minutes ago.

The Geordies can’t stand having Perez out there when he’s having an off day and yesterday was certainly an off day for the Spaniard.
