Newcastle fans on Twitter all know exactly what Shelvey is capable of

Last night, Newcastle United travelled to the KCOM Stadium for a pre-season friendly, drawing 2-2 with Hull City. Jonjo Shelvey set up The Magpies first goal and speaking for the Newcastle website after the game, the England midfielder claimed that there was more to come from him this season.

If Shelvey was only judged on his goals and assists then he wouldn’t be very highly rated at the club, fortunately, though, the fans understand that there’s more to football than just scoring goals and getting assists. Shelvey is one of the best players at St James Park and most of the fans are gutted that their man was part of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.

The 26-year-old played a lovely through ball for Joselu to open the scoring against Hull and after the game, he was harsh in his criticism of himself when he claimed there was more to come from him in the upcoming season. At the age of 26, Shelvey has already turned out for three Premier League clubs and his ability is in no doubt. However, if he can add goals to his game from midfield then he will make himself a much more attractive option for any big clubs looking for a new midfielder.
