Last night saw Peterborough United travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland in League One. That first sentence alone is enough to put a smile on a Newcastle fans’ face, but what was even better was the fact that ex-Newcastle striker Ivan Toney stepped up to score an 84th-minute equaliser for the Posh, leaving the Mackems with just a point.

Ivan Toney had been at Newcastle for three years before he was sold to The Posh over the summer and whilst he never managed to get his chance and take it at St James Park, the supporters will always remember him as a Geordie and seeing him net against Sunderland has only enhanced that. The youngster has started the season well at Peterborough, scoring three goals and registering four assists in his nine League One games.
It’s likely to be a long time before Newcastle are playing Sunderland in any sort of league fixture seeing as the clubs are currently two divisions apart, so unless they can meet in the cup the Magpies will have to get by with seeing ex-players score late goals to steal points from their Tyne-Wear rivals. At the age of 22, Toney has a long way to go but if he can keep his clinical streak going and bag against Sunderland a few more times then he may well end up back at St James Park soon.

Brilliant to see #NUFC legend Ivan Toney on the scoresheet against the Mackems tonight. Time for Benitez to recall him from his loan spell at Peterborough eh @Percycola?
