Last night saw another battling performance from Rafa Benitez’s side in the Premier League. After getting thoroughly humbled by West Ham on Saturday, getting a point away at Everton was a brilliant result, and the fans had the heroics of Martin Dubravka to thank as the Slovakian kept them in the game. Although that’s nothing new this season so far.
Martin Dúbravka spoke to NUFC TV after his saves helped Newcastle gain a point at Goodison Park this evening.

Newcastle United’s number one ‘keeper is a superb shot-stopper. Rafa Benitez is lucky to have such an impressive goalkeeper and more often than not, having someone above average between the sticks can be the difference between finishing above or below the red line at the end of the season. Last season saw Dubravka come in and fire his side up the table, and this season his form could be what saves the Geordies yet again.
Against Everton yesterday he was again sublime. The Slovakian is more than good enough to keep Rafa Benitez’s side in the Premier League and with every game that goes past the decision that Benitez made last January to look for a new goalkeeper and finding Dubravka is looking better and better. If Newcastle aren’t careful they could end up losing their shot-stopper in a big money deal, and whilst they’d make a lot of profit, it’s unlikely they’d be able to find another bargain ‘keeper.
