Newcastle fans on Twitter in shock as club could still make a profit

It should go without saying that if a Premier League club makes a profit during a transfer window then there’s something wrong. However, that could be the case with Newcastle United this summer. The club looks to be close to breaking even at the moment but then there’s the sale of Aleksandar Mitrovic which will likely bring the club around £20 million.

Despite the fact that Newcastle seem to be taking up a ‘sell to buy’ approach to this summer, the fans don’t understand where all of the Premier League TV money seems to have gone. Every club receives a huge sum of money for retaining their Premier League status or for getting promoted to the league and so far The Magpies are being outspent by a whole host of smaller clubs.

All Southampton, West Ham, Wolves and Fulham have all comfortably outspent the Geordies and it’s not surprising to see that the fans aren’t happy with that considering that last season saw Newcastle finish higher than all of those clubs with a spectacular 10th place finish. If the Magpies are to retain or better than 10th placed this season it will only be because of Rafa Benitez’s abilities as a coach, seeing as Mike Ashley’s lack of spending is getting them nowhere.

As you can see, there’s a lot of uncertainty from the fans ahead of the last couple of weeks of the transfer window.
