Newcastle United travel to the City Ground in their first cup game of the season to face Nottingham Forest in the second round of the EFL Cup. This time last year they faced Forest at St James Park in the same round and were knocked out, losing 3-2 after extra-time. This year, though, they’ll be keen for things to go differently.

Newcastle United haven’t really got going this season. The club have got just one point on the board after drawing 0-0 with Cardiff City in their second game of the season. Either side of that draw the Magpies lost 2-1 to Tottenham and Chelsea. The fans will be keen to take the positives from those losses and the fact that Joselu has bagged himself two goals already and will be keen to add some more this evening.
Rafa Benitez opted to bring in both Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto over the summer and with Muto looking like he’ll be directly challenging Ayoze Perez to play in the ten role whilst Rondon challenges with Joselu to be the starting striker at St James Park. The Spaniard’s early season form has been promising and if he can follow it up against Forest tonight then Rondon will have his work cut out to make himself Benitez’s number one striker.

The Geordies will love it if Joselu can get on the scoresheet against tonight and will be keen for him to carry on his early season form.
