Newcastle fans on Twitter really don’t want to sign Rondon

Newcastle United need to sign a striker. The club are almost guaranteed to be selling Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer with Fulham interested in the Serbian and willing to pay the £20 million fee. According to TEAMtalk, the Magpies could be replacing Mitrovic with relegated West Brom striker, Salomon Rondon this summer.

Nine times out of ten, the Newcastle fans would be content with a £15 million deal for a striker. The last time they paid that exact sum for a striker saw Alan Shearer make the move from Blackburn Rovers to St James Park and we all know what happened there. However, it’s unlikely that 28-year-old Rondon who averages eight goals a season in the Premier League will go on to break the all-time goalscoring record at Newcastle.

If Rondon does make the switch to St James Park he will have to hit the ground running if he wants to keep the fans happy. Last season, not a single Newcastle player managed to break into double figures for Premier League goals, with Ayoze Perez, Dwight Gayle and Joselu only managing to bag 18 goals between them all season. Rondon would add goals and with the right service he could be prolific at the club, although for now, the fans are far from convinced.
