It’s fair to say that Florian Lejeune is made of different stuff. The French defender recovered from an ACL tear in just under four months. Unfortunately, he’s done his knee in again though, but this time around just days after going under the knife the Frenchman is back on his feet.

Don’t take this the wrong way, Lejeune isn’t going to be heading balls out of the box at St James Park for a while yet, and will probably be aiming for the start of the 2019/20 season as his ideal return date, but the fact he’s up and walking without crutches or any kind of aid is beyond remarkable. It just goes to show how strong-willed the defender is, and the Magpies absolutely love it.
The Geordies have loved watching the French stopper when he’s been in action and fit, and despite the fact they have Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez to fill in and shine at the back, Lejeune is still a huge miss. It was in the 2017/18 season he struck up quite the partnership with Lascelles, and the fans would love to have him fit and in the form he found last season.

The Magpies are in shock that their man has been walking about so soon after his op and will now just be hoping the French stopper doesn’t rush back too quickly given the risk of making things worse.
