Newcastle fans believed that they’d seen the last of Isaac Hayden when the January transfer window came around. They all knew that the former Arsenal academy man wanted out of St James Park but when an Aston Villa move failed to materialise it was uncertain how the 23-year-old would react, but he’s since been one of their star men.

Isaac Hayden had a rough to start to the Premier League season. After being left out of the squad for the Magpies’ opening day defeat to Tottenham, his first appearance was off the bench at half-time against Cardiff and he only managed 21 minutes before being sent-off. Whilst that Cardiff fixture was a nightmare, the reverse fixture at St James Park against the Bluebirds sparked Hayden’s immense form.
Alongside Sean Longstaff in the Geordies’ midfield, Hayden has been a fore of nature. He’s now started nine consecutive Premier League matches under Rafa Benitez and has even started to chip in with end product. In his last five games he’s chimed in with three assists and a goal, helping the club to win three consecutive home league games for the first time since March last year when they won four games on the spin in front of their own fans, and if Hayden can star again tonight they’ll match that run from last year.

The Geordies couldn’t ask for anymore from Hayden and will be delighted to see him stepping up when it counts despite his shortcomings in wanting a move away.
