Newcastle fans take to Twitter to rave appreciate ex-defender Fabricio Coloccini

In football, it is so often the case that you don’t truly appreciate something – or someone – until it’s gone. In the case of Newcastle fans, one particular supporter chimed in with what he believed was an unpopular opinion as he claimed that Fabricio Coloccini was unappreciated at the club, and plenty of Geordies were quick to share their views on the defensive ace.

For eight years at St James Park, Fabricio Coloccini proved to be one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League. The Argentine defender rocked up with his big hair and steely persona back in summer 2008 on a £10.3 million deal from Deportivo La Coruna. Almost 11 years on from the defender signing and the fans still have fond memories of his days at the club, even if he left almost three years ago.

The 37-year-old defender is still playing football professionally, and since he left the comfort of St James Park after an incredible eight-year spell he’s been turning out in his native Argentine for San Lorenzo. Whether or not the defender has much left in him is a different story, but after his playing days are over there surely won’t be too many Magpies who would be against welcoming back to the club in some capacity.

A lot of Magpies may not appreciate Coloccini fully, but the ones that do would love to see the Argentine welcomed back home one day and St James Park will always be open to former heroes.
