Newcastle keen on £44m ace “destined for greatness”

Newcastle United are expected to be big spenders in the summer transfer window after qualifying for the Champions League, and the attacking threat is a huge priority.

Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon have all had a huge influence on Newcastle’s rise up the Premier League table, and all played a key role in their Carabao Cup success.

However, with Callum Wilson’s future uncertain and the sale of Miguel Almiron back in January, there is a real need for investment into the future of the quality in the final third.

It won’t be enough for Newcastle to just take part in Europe next season, as their ambitions of further success won’t allow for complacency, and they will have a strong desire to continue on an upward trajectory.

For that reason, it won’t be surprising to see the Magpies get stuck in with the recruitment of new additions to help them achieve their goals and compete comfortably across all competitions next season and beyond.

According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Newcastle are interested in signing Fiorentina star Moise Kean and will compete with Serie A giants Napoli to secure his signature.

It is further noted that Kean is in the final year of his contract, so Fiorentina are likely to be open to offers for their talented forward with his €52m (£44m) release clause set to be active over the first two weeks of July.

Should Newcastle sign Moise Kean?

Despite the fact that Alexander Isak remains the undisputed starting striker for Newcastle, there is no reason why bringing in competition for the Swedish star would be a bad thing in the long run.

The Magpies have found it difficult to rotate their centre-forward role with Wilson’s numerous injury issues plaguing his ability to be relied upon to relieve some of the pressure on Isak.

Newcastle are about to add a European tournament to their already congested fixture list, so ensuring they have enough cover to comfortably compete will be absolutely essential if they’re serious about success.

Despite his struggles at Everton and Juventus, it appears that Kean has finally found his finishing boots at Fiorentina and was the second top scorer in the Serie A this season with an impressive 19 goals scored over 32 appearances.

The 25-year-old Italy international – who Roberto Mancini once claimed was “destined for greatness” – is not only great back up for Isak, but has the experience of playing on both the left and right wing over his career so far, so can also offer depth in other priority positions for Newcastle.

It was reported by iNews last month, that the North East giants were strongly considering a move for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap and that Howe would even consider changing his formation to accommodate the signing of another centre-forward.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle will act upon their interest in Kean, and whether missing out on Delap would still prompt an attempt to sign another striker this summer.
