Newcastle United are gearing up for a transformative summer transfer window, with their recruitment plans already beginning to take shape.
The Magpies endured a disappointing campaign, finishing 12th in the Premier League and missing out on European football after breaking club records to reach the Champions League round of 16.
A strong recruitment drive this summer is much needed to get the club back on track and provide Eddie Howe with a squad capable of competing across multiple competitions as Newcastle’s long-term project reaches a crucial stage.
Newcastle have already sanctioned an eye-watering £69m move for winger Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and will need to reinvest those funds into both quality and depth across the squad in the coming weeks.

The Tynesiders are close to confirming their first arrival of the summer, with Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen set to join in a deal that has reportedly been negotiated down to around £19m from the widely reported £24m asking price.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle are planning to strengthen several areas of their squad, including the full-back positions and the search for a replacement for Gordon.
Newcastle eye move for Marco Palestra
It was widely reported that Newcastle were interested in signing Atalanta defender Marco Palestra, who has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in Serie A.
The 21-year-old – once hailed as “extraordinary” by Italy’s Delegation Chief Gigi Buffon – boasts strengths in his right-back role that make him an ideal prospect for Newcastle under Howe, with a reliable passing range, exceptional crossing skills and tactical versatility.
However, fresh reports have emerged suggesting the Italy international has rejected a move to St James’ Park in favour of joining Inter, with Manchester City also overlooked by the Atalanta defender.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano took to social media platform X to pour cold water on a move to Tyneside:
“Marco Palestra to Newcastle not expected to happen despite interest and availability to pay what Atalanta requested.
The player has not opened doors to the move while Inter remain in talks for €45m package, still not enough for Atalanta.”
What are Newcastle’s transfer plans?
Despite this setback, there is still plenty of time for Newcastle to make important additions capable of improving both the squad and performances ahead of next season.
While the club seems focused on defensive reinforcements, finding a solution to their weakened attacking threat will be absolutely imperative if they are serious about returning to European contention.
The fractious departure of Alexander Isak last summer left Newcastle without their talisman in front of goal, and the arrivals of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa have failed to fully compensate for the Swedish striker’s move to Liverpool.
Now, with Gordon heading to Spain, Eddie Howe faces another major challenge in rebuilding his attacking options.
Recruiting quality in the final third should be among Newcastle’s top priorities if they are to climb back up the Premier League table.
