Newcastle United are scrambling to secure a striker in a bid to salvage what has so far been a nightmare summer transfer window, dampened by numerous near-misses.
The Magpies were expected to enjoy a smooth recruitment drive after being granted more freedom to spend in the market, however, it has not gone to plan.
Despite a slow start, Newcastle completed the signing of long-term target Anthony Elanga in a £55m deal from Nottingham Forest – a warmly welcomed addition to strengthen the right side of their attacking threat.
However, the search for a striker to support Alexander Isak, following Callum Wilson’s departure, has been a complete failure so far.
Multiple attempts to sign top targets, including Joao Pedro, have fallen through, and to make matters worse, Isak has now reportedly expressed a desire to leave the club.
This bombshell has left fans reeling, casting doubt over Newcastle’s prospects heading into both their Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
In response, the club has reportedly shifted focus to other striker targets, with negotiations ongoing for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Now, a new name has entered the frame with Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen a potential target.
According to The Shropshire Star, Newcastle have a strong interest in the Norwegian forward.
The report claims the Magpies have contacted Wolves to gain an understanding of the player’s situation, although no formal approach has yet been made.
Strand Larsen is said to be content at Molineux, and Wolves have no interest in a sale; nevertheless, Newcastle could be tempted to test the club’s resolve should Isak depart.
Should Newcastle sign Strand Larsen?

Premier League experience appears to be a key factor in Eddie Howe’s transfer strategy this summer, with most targets coming from within the English top flight.
Bringing in a striker already familiar with the league’s demands would be hugely beneficial, particularly in the early stages of the domestic season amid ongoing uncertainty around Isak.
Strand Larsen made his mark last season during a loan spell at Wolves from Celta Vigo, and only completed a permanent move to Molineux three weeks ago.
Over 36 appearances in all competitions, the talented 25-year-old scored 14 goals and provided five assists, finishing among the Premier League’s top 10 goal-scorers last season.
His performances in his debut season attracted attention, including praise from Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, who highlighted Strand Larsen’s standout display against Ipswich Town on Match of the Day.
“He’s got 11 goals this season, four in his last three games,” Shearer said.
“He was a nuisance. His hold-up play was excellent and I thought his touch and control were superb.”
Given Strand Larsen’s immediate impact in the Premier League, Newcastle’s interest makes sense at this stage in their efforts to sign a striker.
However, prising him away from Wolves so soon after they secured him on a permanent deal, could be incredibly challenging.
It will definitely be one for Newcastle fans to keep an eye on over the coming days, but it feels like it could potentially be a non-starter.
