Newcastle United completing the signing of Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic would be a ‘match made in heaven’, according to pundit Frank McAvennie.

The American still has almost two years remaining on his contract with the Magpies’ Premier League rivals, but the Blues are open to hearing out offers for him and have set their asking price at €35m (£31.2m).

Fabrizio Romano previously claimed that the Tynesiders have been interested in working on a deal for the 24-year-old for ‘months’, although any official approach is yet to be made.

Asked by Football Insider whether Pulisic would be a perfect fit for Newcastle, McAvennie said: “I think so. I think he is one of these players that you want in your team. He has been about, he is a good player.

“Everything that happens at Newcastle now is going to be structured. Chelsea are going to want more money than what they would because it is Newcastle.

“It might be a benefit to both of them. If you are not getting a game the club has got to come to some sort of agreement with you.

“Newcastle is a team on the up. Players will want to go to there because they are going places. You have got a chance of winning something.

“Pulisic going to Newcastle, I could see it happening, it could be a match made in heaven. He will certainly get game time at Newcastle. Sometimes players just want to feel loved and he will get that at Newcastle.“

Pulisic’s valuation is likely to increase should he perform well at the World Cup next month, although PIF should still splash the cash and convince him to put pen to paper at St James’ Park.

The ‘dragon’ – as dubbed by football talent scout Jacek Kulig – has netted 26 goals and provided 20 assists during his time at Stamford Bridge, and he already has two goal contributions to his name in just eight top-flight appearances this season (Transfermarkt).

Also, Eddie Howe would surely love the 24-year-old’s versatility having previously operated in midfield, on the wing and through the middle, so this appears to be a no-brainer of a move to make should the opportunity arise for PIF.
